How GEO Checker handles your data — local-first by design

GEO Checker is a tool for tracking how visible your brand is across AI assistants and AI search (often called GEO — Generative Engine Optimization). It comes in two parts: a browser extension, which is the core product, and this website (geochecker.com), which is mainly informational.
Our guiding principle is simple: the extension is local-first. The data you create while tracking your brand stays in your browser. We do not operate a backend that collects it. This policy explains exactly what that means, and the limited data the website itself processes.
Your data stays on your device. Everything you create in the extension — your product or brand details, competitors, the prompts you track, and every captured AI answer (the response text, optional page HTML, and the citations and links it contained) — is stored only in your browser's local database (IndexedDB), on the extension itself. It is never transmitted to GEO Checker or to any server we control.
Settings. Lightweight preferences (which AI providers are enabled, your interface language) are saved with the browser's built-in extension storage. If you have browser sync turned on, your browser may sync these preferences across your own devices through your browser account (for example, Chrome sync). These preferences are not sent to us.
No GEO Checker account. The extension has no login or account system of its own. It works by using the sessions you are already signed into on the AI provider websites.
How queries run, and the AI services involved. When you run a query, the extension opens an AI provider's own website inside the extension and automates it in your browser — it enters your prompt and reads the answer shown on the page, just as if you had done it by hand. Your prompts and the answers are therefore handled by those third-party services under their own privacy policies. These providers include OpenAI (ChatGPT), Anthropic (Claude), Google (Gemini and Google Search), xAI (Grok), DeepSeek, Moonshot AI (Kimi), ByteDance (Doubao), and Perplexity. We do not control how these services use your data; please review their privacy policies.
Citation lookups. After capturing an answer, the extension may request the public HTML of the websites cited in that answer to read their page titles, so links are labeled clearly. These requests are sent without your cookies (credentials are omitted) and read only enough of the page to find its title.
Update check. The extension is built on the open-source Panelize project and periodically checks a public GitHub address for version information.
No analytics or telemetry. The extension contains no analytics, tracking, or telemetry. We collect no usage data from it, and we never sell or share your data.
The extension requests broad browser permissions to do its job. Here is what each is used for:

Uninstalling the extension removes its local database from your browser.
The website provides marketing pages, a blog, GEO guides, free utilities, and may offer paid plans or paid AI-assist features. Paid plans and paid AI-assist features may include priority support, AI-generated suggestions, prompt-assist workflows, credits, or other functionality described at checkout or on our Pricing page.
Payments. Waffo Pancake processes checkout and payment information for paid plans and paid features. Waffo Pancake may process payment card details, billing information, payment status, transaction identifiers, and related fraud-prevention signals. We receive limited payment records such as order status, plan or product identifiers, customer email, and transaction identifiers so we can provision purchases, provide support, and keep accounting records. We do not store full payment card numbers on GEO Checker servers.
Paid AI-assist features. If you use a paid AI-assist feature, the inputs you intentionally submit to that feature may be processed to generate suggestions, prompts, or related outputs. Extension monitoring data remains local-first and is not sent to GEO Checker unless you intentionally submit specific content to a paid AI-assist feature.
Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic, such as which pages are visited. Google Analytics uses cookies and may collect information such as your IP address (typically shortened or anonymized by Google), device and browser type, approximate location, and the pages you view. This information is processed by Google under its own privacy policy, and may be processed outside your country. For more on the cookies involved, see our Cookie Policy.
Hosting. Like most websites, our hosting provider processes standard server logs (such as IP address and request time) in order to deliver and protect the site.
GEO Checker is intended for professional and business use and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes — for example, if we add accounts or other features that collect personal data — we will update this page and revise the date above before those changes take effect.
