Keep Your Sitemap Aligned

Stay confident that search engines see every important URL and no outdated pages linger in sitemap.xml.

Detect real sitemap sources

Check sitemap.xml first, then verify robots.txt sitemap directives for the canonical source.

Compare against crawled URLs

See which internal pages appear on your site but not in the sitemap, and vice versa.

Resolve gaps quickly

Prioritize missing, stale, or extra URLs so your crawl budget stays focused.

How it works

How the sitemap inspector works

Find your sitemap, compare it to your crawled pages, and close the gaps.

  1. 1

    Enter your site URL

We look for sitemap.xml first, then check robots.txt for a sitemap directive.

  2. 2

    We compare both lists

We match the URLs in your sitemap against the internal links we crawl from your site.

  3. 3

    Close the gaps

You see which pages are missing from the sitemap and which extra URLs no longer exist.

Why sitemap coverage matters

Your sitemap tells search engines which pages to crawl. When important pages are missing, they can stay out of the index for weeks. When dead URLs linger, you waste crawl budget. Keeping the two lists aligned helps every page get found.

Common sitemap mistakes

  • Important pages that are crawled but never listed in sitemap.xml.
  • Old or redirected URLs left in the sitemap long after they were removed.
  • A sitemap that is missing from robots.txt, so crawlers have to guess where it is.
  • Orphan pages with no internal links, so the crawler never reaches them.

Sitemap Inspector FAQ

Answers to the most common sitemap comparison questions.

We check /sitemap.xml first. If it is missing, we look for Sitemap directives in robots.txt and validate the first reachable XML sitemap we find.

Missing URLs are internal links discovered during crawl that do not appear in sitemap.xml. These are candidates to add if they should be indexed.

Extra URLs exist in sitemap.xml but were not discovered by the crawler. They may be orphaned pages, redirects, or links hidden from normal navigation.

No. The crawler samples internal links (up to 200) for quick analysis, so use the comparison as a directional signal rather than a full audit.
